Russell H. Volk Gymnasium

Historic Volk Gymnasium is a tri-level complex comprised of a competition gym, indoor golf practice space, two racquetball/handball courts, a wrestling room, an expansive weight room for varsity student-athletes, locker space, and administrative offices for the Mines Athletics Department. Mines' wrestling, golf, baseball, and softball teams have locker rooms in the building, as well as office suites for those sports along with men's and women's basketball, volleyball, and men's and women's soccer.

Volk Gym, which serves as the primary home for the Mines wrestling team and has seating accommodations for 500 spectators, is located at 14th and Illinois Street. Volk Gym also provides practice space away from Lockridge Arena for basketball and volleyball, and is a popular on-campus recreation spot for basketball, indoor soccer, badminton, and more. It served as the home for basketball and volleyball prior to them moving to Lockridge Arena, and still occasionally hosts basketball and volleyball dates when Lockridge Arena is unavailable. 

The gymnasium underwent a facelift in 2018-19 with new energy-efficient LED lighting installed as well as a complete resurfacing of the maple floor. In the winter of 2022, the Mines Wrestling Wall of Champions was added inside the gym commemorating the long history of success of the Oredigger wrestling program; the ground-level display includes Hall of Famers, national champions, and all-Americans, while championship banners were added to the east upper wall. The project was completed thanks to a lead gift from alumnus Ben Mares '73.
 

 

TICKETS: For wrestling, tickets are sold only at the gate on meet day. Tickets are $10 for adult general admission, $5 for children, seniors, and military, and free for Mines students, faculty, and staff with pass.
PARKING: On weekdays before 5 p.m., paid visitor parking is available in the parking garage across Maple Street from Volk Gym. On weekends or after 5 p.m., fans can park in any Colorado School of Mines lot or the garage. Buses must park in Q Lot. Visit the parking web site for more information.
