GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines has been presented with the inaugural RMAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committe (SAAC) Cup, recognizing Mines SAAC's outstanding community service during the 2016-17 academic year.
Mines was presented with the cup at halftime of Friday's RMAC Tournament men's soccer semifinal at Stermole Stadium. The Orediggers took first with 4,600 points, ahead of Black Hills (4,400) and Colorado Mesa (4,300).
The RMAC SAAC Cup is presented to the institutional SAAC that accrues the most points over four different initiatives - average number of community service hours per student-athlete during the academic year, amount of canned food raised during the month of November 2016, number of "Don't Text and Drive" pledges collected at a doubleheader conference basketball game in February 2017, and total funds raised to support local causes and charities during the 2016-17 academic year.
Throughout the 2016-17 academic year, Mines SAAC raised more than $5,500 and had over 3,000 canned goods donated to charity.
