Congratulations to Oredigger
Men's Swimming, the champions of the 2017 Mines Athletics Food Fight! The team will be honored at halftime of the Men's Basketball game on Friday, February 2 (Mines vs Regis at 6:00pm).
Together, Mines Athletics raised $269.89, collected 338 physical cans/food items (and with funds converted to cans, we collected funds for a collective total of 1,139 cans!) that have been donated to the Christian Action Guild right in downtown Golden. Below includes the team results and overall donation numbers from the 2017 campaign.
The Mines
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, led by SAAC members
Tyler Buck and
Harrison Magee, partnered with all 18 Mines Athletics teams for the 2017 Food Fight to raise funds to fight hunger in the Golden community. Coin collection jars and food collection boxes were available at all home events, and at the Student Recreation Center, October 21 through November 18.
The Food Fight was a weighted competition between all 18 Mines Athletics teams, in which each team had a donation jar for fans and patrons to donate change. As this was a weighted competition, the team with the heaviest jar at the end of the challenge was the winner. The idea was for all participants to raise funds and collect goods with all donations going to benefit Golden's
Christian Action Guild (Food Bank).
The Food Fight and Canned Food Drive initiative by Mines Athletics is in support of the
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) SAAC Community Outreach Campaign.
