He has helped publicize five RMAC Academic Players of the Year, three RMAC Players of the Year, three RMAC Defensive Players of the Year, three RMAC Freshmen of the Year, four RMAC Coaches of the Year, 10 College Sports Communicators Academic All-America selections and numerous All-Americans from different organizations and publications. Murphy has been recognized in the CSC Creative & Digital Design Contest 12 times in his career, with numerous honors in each of his first three years at Mines for his work in graphic design, photography and creative video. He has also been named part of the RMAC's J.W. Campbell/Con Marshall Sports Information Deparment of the Year during his first year at Mines in 2022-23.

Prior to Mines, Murphy worked at his alma mater Missouri S&T in Rolla, Missouri as the Assistant Sports Information Director during the 2021-22 season. While in Rolla, he served as the primary contact for baseball, golf, women's basketball, women's soccer and volleyball. He also served as the lead content creator and social media manager for the department while coordinating broadcasts on the GLVCSN and hosted a weekly podcast entitled “Inside The Mine” that featured S&T coaches, student-athletes, administrators and alumni. During his stint in Rolla, S&T athletics social media accounts experienced growth across the board, including a more than 10% increase in followers on the department's main Twitter account. Across all accounts on Twitter, by the end of the year, Missouri S&T athletics had generated in excess of 6.75 million total impressions, including more than 4.5 million in the first six months of the athletic year, an increase of 63% from that same period during the 2020-21 year. At year's end, Miner Athletics ranked third in the GLVC in total followers on Twitter among member institutions ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Before his return to Rolla, Murphy spent the 2020-21 season as an Athletics Communications Assistant at Division I Jacksonville University, where he served as the primary contact for softball, women's basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball and the Dolphins' nationally-ranked women's lacrosse team. Additionally, he served as the interim contact for the men's and women's soccer teams and men's and women's rowing teams. With the Dolphins, Murphy assisted with the reconstruction and updating of record books for several sports and was responsible for helping maintain Jacksonville's athletics website, along with helping increase the social media followings of the volleyball and women's lacrosse programs on Instagram by more than 40% each over the course of the year. Murphy helped cover Jacksonville women's lacrosse's first-ever win over a top-five ranked opponent, defeating #4/5 Florida 12-11 in the 2021 home opener at Rock Stadium, which was also the program's first-ever win over the Gators. He also chronicled the JU softball team's late-season run that culminated in an ASUN Tournament appearance and saw Alyssa Bilodeau become the program's all-time strikeout leader, surpassing the 600 mark on the final day of the regular season.

During the 2019-20 academic year, Murphy worked as a Sports Information Assistant at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida and was the primary contact for the Eagles' men's soccer, men's golf and softball teams. He worked in tandem with the athletics marketing team to promote theme nights at home events and created digital and print content for game days and promotional giveaways. In the COVID-shortened spring 2020 season, he highlighted the softball program’s third no-hitter as Jayla Jackson did so in the first game of the season.

Murphy got his start in collegiate athletics during his time as a student at Missouri S&T. He was with the baseball team as manager and later director of operations from August 2013 to May of 2019. He was a part of five teams that made postseason appearances, including the Miners' 2016 squad that claimed a GLVC West Division title and advanced to the championship game of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional on their way to a program-best 39-19 record. Murphy also worked in the S&T Sports Information Office starting the fall of 2014 until the spring of 2019, performing a multitude of duties, ranging from statistical entry and broadcast production to public address announcing under the tutelage of CSC 2021 Hall of Fame inductee John Kean and several others. He also earned the M-Club's Honorary Letterman Award in 2017 for his commitment to Miner Athletics and the S&T baseball program during his time in Rolla as a student.

During his time as a student, Murphy also spent two seasons in the Northwoods League with the (Wisconsin) Wausau Woodchucks, where he served as a ballpark operations assistant and clubhouse manager. There he worked with several players who have gone on to play professional baseball in recent seasons including Bryan Lavastida (Hillsborough CC), who made the Cleveland Guardians Opening Day roster in 2022, Brent Headrick (Illinois State), who was called up by the Minnesota Twins in early 2023, Nick Loftin (Baylor) who debuted with the Kansas City Royals in September 2023 and Zach DeLoach (Texas A&M) who started in his big league debut with the Chicago White Sox in May 2024.

A two-time alumni of Missouri S&T, Murphy earned a Bachelor of Science in Business & Management Systems in May of 2018 before completing a Master's Degree in Information Science & Technology with an emphasis in Information System Project Management in December of 2019. He is currently a member of College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), where he is the Chair of the Creative and Digital Design Committee, a member of the Young Professionals Committee and participates in the organization's Mentorship Program. As part of his committee work, he has written several features highlighting up-and-coming athletic communications professionals while engineering a 125% increase in participation in the organization’s premier contest, setting records for submissions in both the 2023-24 and 2024-25 editions of the contest. In the fall of 2024, he was named to the CSC 30 Under 30 class as an up-and-coming star in the world of athletics communications. He currently resides in Westminster with his fiance Samantha and their dog Cherish.
