Aaron Watson joined the Mines football staff as wide receivers coach in 2016.

Watson's receivers put up historic numbers in his first season on staff. Mines owned the nation's #2 passing offense and were led by national touchdowns leader and all-American Brody Oliver, who set Mines and RMAC records with 26 touchdowns and 1,627 yards. Oliver, Ty Young, and Riley Hoff were all named all-RMAC as Oredigger receivers caught 354 passes for 4,678 yards and 53 touchdowns.

He most recently was on staff at Louisville, where he spent three seasons as a quality control assistant as the Cardinals won the 2012 BIG EAST title and Allstate Sugar Bowl, and the 2013 Russell Athletic Bowl. At Louisville, he was responsible for game analysis and preparation, film breakdown, and worked with wide receivers and special teams on drills and skill development.

Watson played wide receiver at Southern Illinois University for two seasons, and ultimately earned his degree in business management from Bellevue University in 2011. He began his coaching career in the high school ranks, serving two seasons as the quarterbacks coach at Gross Catholic in Omaha, Neb.
