GOLDEN – After suffering its first regular-season loss since January 13, 2012, the Colorado School of Mines men's basketball team will return home for a pair of 7 p.m. matchups this weekend against Dallas Bapstist and Haskell, respectively, on Friday and Saturday at Lockridge Arena in Golden.
Mines (1-1) opened the season with an 87-83 double-overtime victory over Minot State on November 10 before suffering a 75-72 loss to Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday, November 18 in Kearney, Neb.
Sophomore Brian Muller leads the squad with an average of 22.5 points per game while posting a 40.0 shooting percentage (12-of-30) as well as a 95.0 percentage from the foul line (19-of-20). He tied a career high with 28 points in the squad's season-opening win over Minot State before adding 17 points in the loss to UNK.
Junior Trevor Wages is averaging a double-double through two games with an average of 16.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per contest. The Littleton native is also averaging 2.5 blocks per contest. He was named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week on November 12 after posting a 15-point, 15-rebound double-double in the win over Minot State.
Senior Luke Meisch is also averaging a double-double with 13.0 points and 11.5 boards per game through two contests. He posted 14 points and a career-high 15 rebounds in the loss to the Lopers on Sunday and is second on the team with 3.5 assists per contest.
Nico Mucci and Trey Winbush have also averaged in double figures through two games, with Mucci averaging 12.0 points and Winbush averging 10.0 points per game.
The Patriots (1-3) won their season-opener by a 79-72 final at home against Abilene Christian, but have suffered three-straight losses since that point. Texas A&M Commmerce captured a 91-87 win in overtime before Wayland Baptist captured an 80-79 overtime victory as well. The squad again played Abilene Christian on Tuesday of this week, and fell by a score of 75-73.
Nick Fox leads the team with averages of 21.0 points and 11.0 rebounds through four games, while Jonathan Perry follows with an average of 11.0 points. Charles Allen and Cory Carden close out the Patriots averaging double figures for scoring with 10.8 and 10.0 points per game, respectively.
The Indians (2-5) will open up the weekend with a 7 p.m. matchup at Regis on Friday evening before taking on the Orediggers on Saturday. Stand Lovato leads the team with an average of 14.6 points per contest, while Ron Rousseu follows with 10.1 points and a team-high 9.3 rebounds per game.
Both contests will tip-off at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
