GOLDEN – A major decision by redshirt freshman Alec Bird put the finishing touches on a 19-15 victory for the Colorado Mines wrestling team over No. 20 Colorado Mesa on Wednesday evening at Volk Gymnasium in Golden.

The Orediggers (3-6, 2-5 RMAC) were spotted a quick six points when Elias Arias was named the victor at 125 pounds due to a forfeit by the Mavericks ( 8-12, 3-6 RMAC), and a 5-0 decision victory by Chad Lousberg at 133 pounds quickly pushed the lead to 9-0.

Austin Cordova picked up a victory at 149 pounds over Trevor Donarski, while Jordan Larsen wrapped up his senior dual season with perfect dual and conference records after topping Dylan Granard by a 2-0 margin.

Up 15-12, Bird came away with an 8-0 major decision at 197 pounds to put the dual, and the Mavericks chances for a comeback, out of reach with a 19-12 score.

The Orediggers will next be in action on Feb. 25-26 at the NCAA Division II Super Regional Four/RMAC Championships in Hays, Kan.
