DENVER – Visiting and fifth-ranked Colorado Mines put four players in double figures, including a game-high 19 points by redshirt freshman Trevor Ritchie, en route to a 75-66 victory over Regis on Saturday afternoon at the Regis Fieldhouse in Denver.
The Orediggers (18-2, 14-2 RMAC) used a 34-to-28 rebounding advantage while holding the Rangers (4-16, 1-15 RMAC) to just 40.7 percent shooting on the afternoon to get the win in a game that featured eight tie scores and 11 lead changes.
Despite just 34.8 percent shooting in the first half by Mines, the two squads headed into the break all tied up at 30-30.
The first ten minutes of the second half were very close, with Regis holding on to a 46-45 lead with 9:24 remaining in the half. Mines then took a lead on the next possession on a layup by Dale Minschwaner, and used that bucket to start a 16-to-5 run that ran through the next six and a half minutes of the ballgame to go up 61-51 with 3:56 to play.
Regis would never get closer than six points the rest of the way after the Orediggers buried 8-of-10 foul shots down the stretch. Mines has now won 11 of its last 12 games, including six in a row.
Ritchie recorded his 19 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the floor, including 10-of-11 from the foul line. He added six rebounds, two assists and three steals in 36 minutes on the court.
Minschwaner added 16 points and a team-high nine rebounds on 5-of-10 shooting from the field. He added two assists, one block and one steal in 31 minutes of action.
Reigning RMAC/Baden Offensive Player of the Week Brett Green added 13 points on a 2-of-4 effort from the field while also going 7-of-8 from the charity stripe. Sophomore Trevor Wages was the final member of the squad in double figures for scoring with 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the floor.
The Orediggers will have a day off on Super Sunday before heading into Denver for a matchup with No. 12 Metro State at 7 p.m. CSM entered the weekend with a one-game lead over the Roadrunners for the top spot in the RMAC standings.
