GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado School of Mines softball team picked up the weekend sweep earning a 4-2 victory in game one on Sunday and finishing it off with a 12-0 win in five innings against Chadron State at the CSM Softball Field.
Mines took a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Macy Jones led off with a triple and Sami Springer brought her home with an RBI double. Springer would eventually come around to score on Molly Thiebaut's RBI single. The Orediggers added a single run in the third this time it was Sarah Lustgraaf with the RBI single.
The Eagles hung around scoring two runs in the fifth to make it 3-2. Chadron State went three up and three down in the sixth while Mines tacked on run courtesy of an RBI double by Jones to make if 4-2.
Kelly Unkrich finish off the Eagles in the top of the seventh picking up her third win of the weekend as she scattered nine hits while allowing two runs with three strikeouts and no walks.
Jones finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Lustgraaf and Springer were both 2-for-3 as Springer scored two runs and hit two doubles while each drove in a run. Thiebaut was 1-for-2 with a walk, one RBI and a stolen base.
The Orediggers put on an impressive offensive display in game two scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the second inning with two outs as Morgan Anderson broke the inning open with an RBI single.
Jones and Kamee Vessey both hit two-run doubles while Lustgraaf added another double to score one more. A Chadron State error added to Mines' total as well.
Anderson came around to bat a second time and tallied her second and third RBI of the inning while Allysia Cisneros drove in the 10th run of the inning.
Mines added two more in the fourth, one on a wild pitch and another on a throwing error by the Eagles.
Ashley Goletz tossed a three-hit shutout with two strikeouts and no walks to pick up her third win of the season.
Mines finished the game with four doubles and drew eight walks. Anderson finished 2-for-2 with a run scored and three RBI. Thiebaut was 2-for-2 with three runs scored.
The Orediggers (8-15, 5-7 RMAC) will host UC-Colorado Springs on Wednesday, March 14th as they play a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 pm.
