GRAND JUNCTION – The Colorado School of Mines baseball team rebounded to post three runs in the top of the seventh, but could not overcome a five-run deficit in falling to Colorado Mesa by an 8-6 final in game two of Saturday's doubleheader at Canyon View Park.

The Orediggers (6-9, 5-6 RMAC) opened the game with a three-run inning – paced by consecutive RBI-singles by Jordan Williams, Charlie Basil and Bobby Egeberg

The Mavericks (14-7, 8-3 RMAC) quickly responded with four runs of their own in the home half of the first frame, and both teams would be scoreless until Colorado Mesa put four more runs across in the home half of the sixth inning.

Consecutive walks to start the top of the seventh by Zach Bothwell and Kyle Wallace put runners on first and second, and a single by Charlie Basil sent runners to second and third, with Bothwell using an error by the right fielder to come around and score. After a wild pitch moved Wallace to third, a single by Egeberg would score Wallace for the second run of the inning. A sac fly to right field by Matthew Pullos scored pinch runner Shane Johnson from third for the final run of the inning.

Basil led the offense with a 3-for-4 clip at the dish with one RBI, while Egeberg added a 2-for-4 effort with two RBI.

Tyler Phan Thornton finished 2-for-4 with one run scored from the leadoff spot, while Williams finished 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Blake Dunham took the loss after allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 12 hits over six full innings. He added five strikeouts over his 97 pitches on the afternoon.

The Orediggers and Mavericks will close out the series tomorrow at noon.
