GOLDEN – The No. 16 Colorado School of Mines volleyball team will look to win its fourth-straight match on Friday evening when it takes on Black Hills State at the Young Center in Spearfish, S.D., at 7 p.m.
Mines (9-4, 3-1 RMAC) opened up this week with a 3-1 win over South Dakota Mines at Lockridge Arena in Golden on Tuesday. The Orediggers posted a 22 blocks in the match which tied a season high that was set in Mines' 3-1 win over then-No. 18 Regis on Saturday.
The squad is currently eighth nationally with an average of 14.3 kills per set and 10th nationally with 13.36 assists per set.
Senior Jackie Stabell leads the squad with 169 kills at an average of 3.67 kills per set. This week's RMAC Offensive Player of the Week, Stabell posted 13 kills in the win over the Hardrockers on Tuesday while adding eight digs and five blocks.
Junior Melanie Wannamaker has posted a combined 44 kills in her last three matches, including 20 on a .500 attack percentage in the win on Tuesday. The reigning RMAC Defensive Player of the Week also has a total of 15 blocks over the three-match stretch.
Freshman Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood was named the RMAC Setter of the Week as well this week after posting 91 assists at an average of 11.38 assists per set in a pair of wins over then-No. 10 Metro State and then-No. 18 Regis over the weekend. She kept the hot streak going on Tuesday with a career-high 48 assists in the win, while adding 10 digs for her third double-double of the season.
BHSU (4-8, 0-4 RMAC) enters Friday's contest on a four-match losing streak after winning the previous three matches. The Yellowjackets have won just one set in their four-match losing streak (all RMAC contests).
Mines is 0-1 against BHSU since the 1992 season, with the only matchup in the series being a 3-0 win for the Yellowjackets on October 24, 1992, in Spearfish, S.D.
