COLORADO SPRINGS – Paced by senior pentathlete Erin Beach and senior heptathlete Matt Schroeder, the Colorado School of Mines indoor track and field teams kicked off the 23rd annual Air Force Invitational Thursday at the Academy's Cadet Field House in Colorado Springs.

Beach claimed 15th out of a field of 35 and was fifth-best among non-Division I competitors with a new program record and second-highest total in the RMAC of 3,103, highlighted by the day's fifth-fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.12 seconds.

Capped by a fifth-place finish in the 800 in 2:34.76, junior Kayla Johnson also surpassed the previous school-record she set last season of 2,993 with a final tally of 3,076, placing 18th.

Freshman Alexis Humann took 27th with 2,424 points.

Mississippi State's Erica Bougard won the pentathlon with an Air Force Invitational record of 4,190 points, as she bettered the field by over 300 points.

Schroeder sits 14th overall and fourth among Division II athletes through four events – 60-meter dash, long jump, shot put, and high jump – in the heptathlon with a cumulative score of 2,469.

Freshman classmates Dallas Hall and Ian Rozier are positioned 18th and 21st, respectively, in the opening meet of their careers with totals of 2,135 and 1,766.
