RAPID CITY, S.D. – Led by a 10-of-21 effort from the perimeter and a 19-of-23 effort from the foul line, the Colorado School of Mines men's basketball team kept its record unblemished to start the season with a 79-65 victory over South Dakota Mines on Saturday at Goodell Gymnasium.
The Orediggers (3-0) put four people in double figures, led by senior Brett Green, who posted 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor, including a 2-of-5 effort on 3-point attempts. He added five rebounds, six assists, three steals and finished 5-of-6 from the line.
Junior Brian Muller led the effort from the perimeter with a 4-of-8 performance en route to 18 points, while freshman Gokul Natesan added 14 points, including a 9-of-10 effort at the line. Natesan also added seven steals as well, giving him 13 thefts through three games to start his collegiate career.
Senior Trevor Wages added a team-high eight rebounds and collected 13 points for his third game in double figures to start the season. He finished 4-of-7 from the field and 5-of-7 from the foul line as well.
Luke Meisch finished 2-for-2 from 3-point range for six points to go along with four rebounds.
The Orediggers turned 17 Hardrocker (3-4) turnovers into 24 points to offset a 22-to-14 advantage on points in the paint.
Mines led by as much as 20 points in the first half on the way to a 47-33 lead at the break, securing a 14-point victory as the teams matched point totals in the second half.
The victory by the Orediggers on Saturday snapped a 13-game home winning streak for the Hardrockers that dated back to the 2011-12 season.
Mines will return home to the friendly confines of Lockridge Arena on Friday for a 7 p.m. matchup against Northwestern Oklahoma State.
