GOLDEN – Colorado School of Mines women's basketball twice rallied back from five-point deficits in the last 7:37 Friday afternoon, but could not overcome a 65-60 margin with 1:34 left as Trevecca Nazarene escaped with a 69-66 win in the Mines Thanksgiving Classic.
Seniors Katie Clements and Courtney Gallo hit back-to-back field goals to pull Mines (1-2) within 65-64 with 52 seconds remaining.
Trevecca Nazarene's Christina Curtner and Anna Mitchell then sandwiched 4-of-4 free throws around a jumper by freshman Laura Tyree jumper in the final 23 seconds for the deciding tally.
Gallo's three-point attempt to force overtime went awry as time expired.
The Orediggers shot a season-high 45.3 percent (24-of-53) and had four players in double figures for the first time as senior Allie Grazulis had 13 points, Gallo and sophomore Courtney Martin each scored 12 and Tyree added 11.
TNU (3-2) finished 19-of-55 (.345) and totaled 25 points off 21 Oredigger turnovers.
Curtner was the lone double-digit score with 11 points and game-high 6-of-6 free throws.
Curtner and Mitchell combined to shoot 10-of-10 at the line as the Trojans connected on a season-best 23-of-26 attempts (.885). Mitchell and Paige Baugher each had eight points.
Mines concludes the Classic at 5 p.m. tomorrow against Cameron at Lockridge Arena.
