LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Colorado School of Mines senior pitcher Kelly Unkrich was named to the NFCA All-South Central Region First Team on Friday with the release of the Division II softball all-region teams by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
A 2011 NFCA Second Team All-Central Region recipient, Unkrich was one of 13 players and two pitchers chosen to the First Team and is now eligible for selection to one of three NFCA Division II All-American squads to be announced next week.
The three-time RMAC Pitcher of the Year and two-time RMAC Preseason Pitcher of the Year, Unkrich topped the RMAC and ranked No. 3 in Division II in ERA (0.86), No. 3 in wins (26-1), No. 5 in shutouts (12) and No. 13 in saves entering this weekend's NCAA regional tournament in Canyon, Texas.
A native of Highlands Ranch, she was voted the RMAC Tournament MVP after leading NFCA No. 11 Mines (40-6-1) to its first conference softball championship and a new program single-season wins record with four consecutive victories, including a 1-0 shutout of Adams State in the final.
Recognized as RMAC Pitcher of the Week nine times and RMAC Women's Athlete of the Month twice during her storied career, Unkrich earned Most Outstanding Pitcher and All-Tournament First Team laurels at the Desert Stinger Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada in February.
Honored on Daktronics All-Central Region teams in 2011 and 2012, Unkrich ranks as the most decorated pitcher in Mines history, holding the program career records for wins (70), starts (104), strikeouts (591), shutouts (23), complete games (86) and innings pitched (717.1), as well as the conference mark for saves (11).
The all-region teams were voted on by NFCA member coaches in each of the eight regions.
