DENVER – The No. 17 Colorado School of Mines volleyball team did not let last night's defeat at Metro State way on their mind, as the Orediggers topped preseason RMAC favorite and 22nd-ranked Regis by a 3-1 score on Saturday at the Regis Field House in Denver.

Mines (8-4, 3-1 RMAC) lost the first set, 25-22, but rebounded to post three wins behind scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 26-24.

The squad saw three players head into double digits for kills, with senior Melanie Wannamaker leading the team with 19 kills on a .310 attack percentage. The Kingwood, Texas, product added four total blocks to lead the squad as well.

Reigning RMAC Offensive Player of the Week Alanna Winfield posted 18 kills on a .308 attack percentage, while junior Sarah Pekarek posted 15 kills and 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the season.

Sophomore Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood recorded 54 assists over the four games and added eight digs on the defensive end.

Senior Hannah Margheim posted 19 digs to lead the back line, while junior Cassie Vick added 14 digs.

The win was the 113th for head coach Jamie Skadeland, which puts her tops among all coaches in program history. She passed the mark of 112 she shared with former head coach Michele Harris (1993-2002). Skadeland also sits tops among all coaches in terms of win percentage in program history (113-55, .672).

After Regis (7-6, 3-1 RMAC) captured the opening set, the Rangers took a 10-7 lead in the second before pushing the lead out to 21-16 later in the game on a kill by Katie Klein

Mines would be undeterred as the Orediggers captured nine of the next 10 points en route to the 25-21 victory.

Once again, Mines found itself trailing, this time at 17-13 in the third set before rattling off nine of the next 10 points to take a 23-18 lead en route to the 25-20 win.

For the first time in the match, the squad opened the fourth set with a lead, this time at 15-11 before pushing it out to 20-15 on a kill by Winfield.

Regis answered back by tying up the set at 22-22 on another kill by Klein, and the squads traded points to push the set to 24-24. Mines would close out the set, and the match, behind consecutive kills by Winfield and Ashlyn Eitemiller for a 3-1 win.

The Orediggers will return to Lockridge Arena on Tuesday to host Johnson & Wales in a nonconference matchup. The two squads will square off at 7 p.m.
