TOWSON, Md. – Senior Brett Green of the No. 13 Colorado School of Mines men's basketball team added yet another award to his storied career on Wednesday when he was named Capital One/CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District.
Green, a Peyton native and Engineering Technology Management graduate student, earns his first Academic All-Distict honor after posting a 3.33 undergraduate grade point average before graduating last spring with a degree in Petroleum Engineering.
A 2013-14 Preseason All-RMAC selection, Green currently averages 13.2 points per game for the Orediggers (15-2, 11-2 RMAC), good for fourth on the team. A 2012-13 NABC Honors Court selection, Green earned 2012-13 Basketball Times Preseason All-America honors before suffering a season-ending injury that forced him to miss the entire 2012-13 campaign.
As a junior in 2011-12, Green earned NABC All-American, Basketball Times All-American, RMAC Player of the Year, First Team All-RMAC and NABC All-District honors. He was named Second Team All-RMAC as a sophomore in 2010-11 after earning 2009-10 RMAC East Division Freshman of the Year and Third Team All-RMAC East Division honors the year prior. He currently has 1,460 career points and is the program's all-time leader in career free throw percentage with a mark of 85.0 percent.
As one of five student-athletes honored on the District 6 First Team, Green will be placed on the Capital One Academic All‐America Team ballot, where first‐, second‐ and third‐team All‐America honorees will be selected in February.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
