GOLDEN – The No. 13 Colorado School of Mines volleyball team will continue its current seven-match home stand this week with a Thursday matchup against No. 22 Metro State University and Colorado Christian University on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
Both matches will be held at Lockridge Arena in Golden, with Thursday's tilt with the Roadrunners (12-2, 6-0 RMAC) beginning at 7 p.m. and Saturday's matchup with the Cougars (10-5, 4-2 RMAC) beginning at 5 p.m.
Mines (12-2, 5-1 RMAC) enters the week's matchup following a 2-1 week that featured a 3-1 win over Western State on Tuesday, a 3-0 loss to No. 20 Colorado Mesa on Friday and a 3-0 win over Fort Lewis on Saturday. Friday's loss to CMU snapped a seven-match winning streak for Mines that dated back to the season's opening weekend.
As a squad, Mines is currently third nationally in kills per set (14.81), third nationally in assists per set (14.06), eighth in total assists (675), 11th in total kills (711), 12th in digs per set (18.4) and 18th in team attacks per set (38.79).
Sophomore Alanna Winfield leads the Orediggers' offensive efforts with 178 kills at an average of 3.71 kills per set while sitting second on the team with 32 total blocks. The Preseason All-RMAC selection is currently fifth in the RMAC with her kills per set average.
Sophomore Megan Peterson is eighth in the league with an average of 3.39 kills per set on 149 kills while also sitting second in the conference and 17th in the nation with a .387 attack percentage. She leads Mines' defensive efforts at the front line with 34 blocks at an average of 0.77 blocks per set.
Senior Sarah Pekarek is third on the team with 129 kills and a 2.69 kills per set average and is fourth on the squad with 129 digs at an average of 2.69 digs per set. The Plymouth, Minn., product eclipsed 1,000 career digs in Tuesday's 3-1 win over Western State.
Junior Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood currently leads the RMAC and sits third nationally with an average of 12.38 assists per set. Already the program's all-time leader in career assists, the Preseason RMAC Setter of the Year has 11 double-doubles as well through 14 matches. She sits second on the team with 175 digs at an average of 3.65 digs per set.
Sophomore Taryn Huber leads the back line with 222 digs at a 4.62 digs per set average, while junior Corrine Din has added 143 digs and senior Cassie Vick has chipped in 84.
Freshman Ellie Monarch leads the front line defense with an average of 1.39 blocks per set and fellow rookie Mattie Behr sits second on the team with an average of 0.88 blocks per set.
