SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Colorado School of Mines volleyball team used three athletes with 10-plus kills to post its 11th-straight victory with a 3-0 sweep over home-standing Black Hills State on Saturday afternoon at the Young Center in Spearfish, S.D.
Set scores for the match were 25-16, 25-13 and 25-20.
The Orediggers (22-2, 15-1 RMAC) remained atop the RMAC standings in a tie with No. 13 Colorado Mesa (21-3, 14-1 RMAC) and No. 20 MSU Denver (21-3, 14-1 RMAC) with the win. Mines is in search of its third-straight RMAC Championship after claiming its first two titles in program history in each of the last two seasons.
Sophomore Megan Peterson posted a match-high 13 kills on a .417 attack percentage while adding two digs and two blocks on the defensive end. The St. Louis, Mo., product hit .438 and averaged 4.17 kills per set over Mines' 2-0 weekend.
Sophomore Alanna Winfield and freshman Ellie Monarch finished second on the team with 11 kills apiece, with Winfield adding five digs and a block and Monarch notching two digs and four total blocks – the latter leading the team.
Junior Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood posted 39 assists and 10 digs for her 18th double-double of the season and the 52nd of her career, while also adding a pair of blocks defensively. She has now posted a double-double in 17 of Mines' 24 matches this season.
Senior Sarah Pekarek added nine kills, eight digs and three assists, while sophomore Taryn Huber led the defense with 19 digs. Junior Corrine Din added eight digs and sophomore Frannie Cormier added five kills as well.
Mines will close the regular season next week with matchups at No. 20 MSU Denver on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and at Colorado Christian (16-10, 8-7 RMAC) on Friday at 7 p.m.
