Mines Rallies Twice To Take Season-Opener, 60-58

GOLDEN – Aided by a pair of second-half rallies, Colorado School of Mines women's basketball came from behind for its second season-opening win in three seasons on Friday, defeating Eastern New Mexico, 60-58, in the inaugural Tony Corbetta Classic in Golden.

Mines (1-0) evened the game at 45-45 with a 17-2 run, and following a 12-4 spurt that saw the Zias (0-1) go back in front eight, 57-49, the women took their initial lead of the second half, 59-58, on a lay-in by junior Courtney Martin with 1:51 remaining.

ENMU drew iron on two go-ahead three-point attempts in the final 1:32 and sophomore Laura Tyree converted 1-of-2 at the line for the first win in the series since 2000.

Martin and Tyree shared the team-high with 12 points each.

Sophomore Caitlyn Smith and senior Taylor Helbig led with 12 and 10 rebounds, respectively, as the Orediggers held a 50-47 edge on the glass and 28-18 advantage in interior scoring.

The Zias, led by a game-high 22 points from Tori Tucker, finished 23-of-64 (.359) and 8-of-23 (.348) along the perimeter, while Mines shot 23-of-69 (.333) and 7-of-24 (.292) outside.  

The Orediggers wrap up the two-day classic at 6 p.m. Saturday against 2013-14 Heartland Conference regular season champion Lubbock Christian at Lockridge Arena.
