Mines Kicks Off CSM Twilight With School Record, Provisional Efforts

GOLDEN – Senior Casie Ratzlaff earned her first career NCAA provisional and the men's DMR provisionally-qualified with the nation's second-fastest time Friday as the Colorado School of Mines track and field teams began the two-day CSM Twilight Open at Steinhauer Fieldhouse.

Ratzlaff spun a program-record 16.14 meters on her second attempt in the weight throw, taking runner-up and surpassing the qualification standard of 16.00 with the third-best distance in the RMAC this season.

Sophomore Hannah Weidman followed in third with a throw of 13.76 meters.

Sophomore Jacob Hollister won the men's competition with a personal-record 16.26 meters on his fourth throw, advancing his previous-best from the Air Force Holiday Open in December by nearly 1.3 meters. Senior Ryan Ewen placed second (16.19m), senior Nicolo Redfern third (15.19m), junior Austin Roup fourth (15.02m) and sophomore Jace Warren fifth (14.87m).

Freshman Patrick Weaver, sophomore Ian Rozier, junior Garrett Hoch and senior Frank Socha combined for the win in the DMR with a debut time of 10:17.33.

The Open continues Saturday morning, beginning at 11 a.m. with the men's shot put and the women's 5000.
