GOLDEN – Less than 24 hours after a 26-point dismantling of Black Hills State, Colorado School of Mines women's basketball hung a season-high 87 points on Chadron State, including 49 in the second half en route to a 87-63 Senior Day romp at Lockridge Arena.
Senior Courtney Gallo went for 21 of her game- and career-high 24 points in the second as Mines (9-14, 8-11 RMAC) blew open a 38-37 halftime lead behind 53.1 percent (17-of-32) shooting and 9-of-15 (.600) makes from the outside.
Chadron State (4-19, 4-15 RMAC) reclaimed the lead with the first basket of the second half, before Gallo scored nine unanswered in 1:21 on three consecutive three-pointers to put the Orediggers in front 47-39.
Mines limited the Eagles to only six field goals and 23.1 percent shooting after the break, steadily building the lead to as much as 26 in the closing minute.
The women finished 32-of-69 (.464), 12-of-24 (.500) along the arc and 11-of-13 (.846) at the free throw line, and assisted on a season-high tying 22 field goals.
Mines forced a season-best 23 turnovers for the second night in a row, posting a 30-9 advantage in points off takeaways. The Orediggers slowed the Eagles to a 37.7 percent (20-of-53) clip and 20.8 percent (5-of-24) effort on three-pointers after CSC began 14-of-27 and 5-of-10, respectively.
Gallo was 8-of-14 overall and career-best 7-of-11 from distance, moving ahead of Peanut Eickelman (2005-09) for second place on the Mines career three-pointers chart with 137.
In two games against Chadron State this season, Gallo is a combined 12-of-23 from the floor and 10-of-16 on threes with 37 points in the second 20:00.
Senior Tory Langas added 14 points and three assists. Classmate Katie Clements matched her season-high with 11, going 4-of-4 and 2-of-2 behind the perimeter with game-highs of six assists and four steals.
Sophomore Courtney Martin lifted Mines to its second straight game of 30 or more bench points with a career-best 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
Senior Allie Grazulis collected double figure rebounds for the fourth time in five games with a season-high 16 to go with six points, one block and a steal. Third in the RMAC at 10.1 per game, Grazulis is eight rebounds away from tying Jamie Frisch (772; 1994-98) for third in program archives with 764 in her career.
Making her first collegiate appearance since 2009-10, junior Laura Brigham flushed a straight-on three-pointer in the last minute to finish with three points and two rebounds.
Senior Catherine Jimenez ended the evening with two points, one rebound and one assist, opening the scoring with a corner jumper 40 seconds in.
The Orediggers end the regular season with three straight road games, beginning at 6 p.m. next Friday at New Mexico Highlands in Las Vegas, N.M.
