No. 25 Angelo State Takes Series Opener, 10-1

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Colorado School of Mines baseball team was tasked with facing one of the top pitchers in the nation, and home-standing and NCBWA No. 25 Angelo State used six innings from Jake Feckley on the way to a 10-1 victory at Foster Field in the first game of a four-game series on Friday.

Mines (2-2) was only able to record three hits in the contest, including a pinch-hit RBI single by freshman Cody Marvel in the top of the ninth that scored sophomore Nate Olinger

Senior Charlie Basil finished 1-for-4 with a double and Olinger added a 1-for-4 line with a run scored. Marvel finished 1-for-1 with an RBI to account for Mines' three hits. 

Sophomore Christian Rooney (1-1) was tagged with the loss after surrendering eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits in five innings. The Lakewood native finished with four strikeouts and issued five walks over his 95-pitch outing. 

Freshman Will Phillips allowed two earned runs on three hits in an inning of relief while sophomore Travis Ramos and freshman Kellen MacDonald combined for two innings of one-hit relief as well. 

Ramos struck out two batters on 13 pitches in his one inning of relief. 

Feckley allowed just one hit through a six-inning quality start for the Rams (7-2) with five strikeouts. 

The two squads will resume the series tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. (CST).
