WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Done in by a trip on the opening leg, Colorado School of Mines was unsuccessful in its bid to repeat as All-American in the men's DMR, placing 11th of 12 teams Friday at the 2014 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Roughly 600 meters into the 1200-meter leg, senior Frank Socha fell victim to the congestion of 12 runners on a six-lane track, taking a stumble before eventually handing off the baton at 3:14.13.

Junior Garrett Hoch (48.48), freshman Patrick Weaver (1:55.08) and sophomore Drew Kerschieter (4:23.31) carried Mines out of last place, but the lost time was too much to bring back as the foursome finished in 10:20.99.

The 11th-place finish marks the first time in six seasons and only the second time since the event's inception in 2005 that the Silver-and-Blue was not represented in the top-eight on the podium.

Ashland edged Adams State by 1.09 seconds for the title with a time of 9:49.14. Western State was third in 9:56.18.

Weaver and Hoch narrowly missed on advancing to the eight-runner championship finals of the men's 800 as Weaver ran ninth of 17 in the prelims in 1:52.84 and Hoch 10th in 1:53.03.

The Orediggers conclude the championships Saturday with the men's 3000 at 4:05 p.m. (MDT), followed by the men's 4x400 at 6:45 p.m. at the JDL Fast Track.
