GOLDEN – Sophomore Kristen Prudhomme threw eight innings of two-hit ball and senior Courtney Derus delivered the walk-off base hit as Colorado School of Mines softball split Saturday's doubleheader against Fort Lewis at CSM Softball Field, 2-1.

Seniors Morgan Anderson and Sami Springer sent back-to-back singles to the outfield grass to open the decisive eighth. Junior Cassie Ford advanced both with a textbook sacrifice bunt to the pitcher and Derus followed with the game-winning drive to deep, right center.

Scratched from the lineup in the opener due to soreness, Prudhomme (9-12) was in control from the onset, inducing 13 fly ball outs and 10 groundouts, while retiring the Skyhawks (17-15, 13-9 RMAC) in order in four of the eight frames.

The Monument, Colo. native struck out one and walked only two on 104 pitches.

Fort Lewis managed its lone run in the sixth on an RBI single through the left side of the infield.

Mines (10-17, 6-12 RMAC) took its initial lead of the day in its first at-bat as Ford singled home senior Springer who reached via an overthrow by the third baseman.

Ford had her team-best 13th multi-hit outing, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Derus finished 1-for-4 with the go-ahead tally, while Anderson and Springer were both 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Anderson has hit safely in nine straight for the second time this season and sits two shy of tying her career-best of 11 games set in early March.

The Orediggers conclude the four-game homestand at 11 a.m. Sunday.
