WALNUT, Calif. – Colorado School of Mines track and field continued to find success in the California sun Friday as the men and women recorded five NCAA provisional results between the Mt. SAC Relays and Bryan Clay Invitational.
NOTE – Results of men's hammer throw at the Beach Invitational were not available at time of release.
Seniors Hannah Schuster and Frank Socha each timed collegiate-bests and provisionals in the 1500 of the Mt. SAC Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium; Schuster ranked 30th out of 143 runners in 4:27.58 and Socha 25th of 118 in 3:49.86.
Senior Sean Gildea and sophomore Marty Andrie provisionally qualified in the 5000, finishing sixth and eighth among 32 in the "B" heat in 14:15.81 and 14:16.79, respectively. Redshirt freshman Seth Topper was 27th in heat "C" in 14:57.82.
The men's 4x400 of freshmen Matthew Drotar and Patrick Weaver and sophomores Ian Rozier and Garrett Hoch placed ninth of 20 in 3:14.77.
Junior Austin Roup took 30th in the hammer throw at a distance of 172-10 (52.69m).
Senior Andrew Epperson led the Orediggers at the Bryan Clay Invite in Azusa, running second out of 70 in the 5000 in a provisional 14:36.36. Junior Derek Alcorn sat 12th in 14:50.03 classmate Ryan Bull 23rd in 14:59.39.
Junior Michelle Rigsby set personal-records in two of her three events, tying for 14th out of 44 in the long jump at 5.50 meters and crossing 51st of 69 in the 100 in 12.83. She was 21st in the triple jump with a distance of 10.94 meters.
Senior Kayla Johnson improved her personal-best in the triple jump, earning ninth among 33 behind an 11.62-meter total, and placed 18th of 46 in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.17.
Junior Seun Ogunmodede added two top-10 efforts, taking fifth out of 28 in the long jump (6.80m) and seventh of 15 in the triple jump (14.04m).
Freshman Amanda Giles was 19th of 37 in the javelin at 35.25 meters and sophomore Austin Shaffer 20th of 45 in the 400 in 49.87.
The teams wrap up their West Coast trip this afternoon at the Beach Invitational at Cerritos College in Norwalk.
