ALAMOSA – Led by sophomore champion Jacob Hollister, Colorado School of Mines track and field placed four individuals in the top-five of the men's hammer throw on Day 1 of the 2014 RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Rex Stadium in Alamosa.
Hollister, the reigning RMAC Field Athlete of the Week, followed up last week's school record with his first First Team All-RMAC award behind an NCAA provisional 57.20 meters on his fourth attempt.
He is the second Oredigger in three seasons to win the event, joining 2012 champ Chris McFee who threw 181-2 (55.23m).
Junior Austin Roup finished runner-up with a collegiate-best and provisional 56.30 meters and senior Ryan Ewen was third at 53.58 meters as the trio matched their conference rankings to sweep the podium.
Sophomore Jace Warren earned his initial all-conference selection, throwing 49.23 meters to place fifth and stake Third Team distinction among the 13-thrower field.
The women's hammer throw was postponed until 12 p.m. tomorrow.
Senior Kayla Johnson opened her last championships appearance fifth out of 10 through four events in the women's heptathlon with an aggregate score of 2758. The current school record-holder, Johnson totaled a high of 843 points in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing fourth in 14.99.
Freshman Amanda Giles sits 10th with 2463 points.
The women conclude the final three events at 9:30 a.m. Monday. Track events get underway at 9:00 a.m., beginning with the men's 10,000.
