Orediggers Combine For Eight All-RMAC Results Monday

ALAMOSA – Colorado School of Mines track and field achieved eight more all-conference performances on Monday, including a pair of runner-up times in the distance events to highlight Day 2 action at the 2014 RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Alamosa.

Senior Tyler Curtis repeated as an All-RMAC First Teamer in the 3000-meter steeplechase, taking runner-up out of 14 in an NCAA provisional 9:31.71. Classmate Neal Anderson ran fourth and claimed Second Team merit behind a provisional time of 9:47.49.

The men also timed two provisional qualifications in the 18-runner 10,000 as junior Phil Schneider earned second place and First Team accords in 32:20.88 and redshirt freshman Nathanael Williams tied for third in 32:29.38.

Senior Kayla Johnson produced her third consecutive all-conference selection in the heptathlon, netting 1645 points over the final three events to rank fifth with a provisional score of 4403. Freshman Amanda Giles moved up two positions from Sunday to finish eighth, besting her previous personal-record by 250 points with a 4109 total.

Giles later captured Third Team praise among 14 in the javelin with a sixth-place mark of 117-01 (35.68m), while Johnson qualified sixth out of 16 for tomorrow's final of the 100-meter hurdles in 15.09.

Freshman Jeffrey Stephens debuted third of 15 in the men's javelin at 180-09 (55.10m) to garner Second Team honors. Junior Austin Roup was seventh with a throw of 153-03 (46.72m).

Junior Seun Ogunmodede staked All-RMAC recognition in the long jump for the first time, placing third of 14 at 23-4.00 (7.11m). Junior Michelle Rigsby scored in eighth on the women's side, jumping 18-7.00 (5.66m).

Senior throwers Casie Ratzlaff and Ryan Ewen contributed to the team scores; Ratzlaff was eighth among 18 in the hammer throw via a collegiate-best 150-05 (45.85m) and Ewen eighth in the shot put at 44-9.00 (13.64m).

In addition to Johnson, advancing into finals on Tuesday was freshman Ryan Morningstar (8th, 49.15) and sophomores Ian Rozier (2nd, 48.26) and McKenzie Zeman (8th, 59.32) in the 400 as well as senior Hannah Schuster (3rd, 2:16.70) and freshman Patrick Weaver (3rd, Prov. 1:52.08) in the 800.

After recording 28 points in the hammer throw on Sunday, the men remained near the top of the team standings, adding 41.50 to their total Monday to trail first-place Adams State (70 points) by only 0.5 points.

The women sit eighth with 10 points, only 11 back of the top-five. New Mexico Highlands is comfortably in the lead with 88 points.

The third and final day of competition begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the men's pole vault.
