No. 17 Orediggers Dispatch UAFS In Three

COMMERCE, Texas – Led by 17 kills on a .739 attack percentage by sophomore Megan Peterson, the No. 17 Colorado School of Mines volleyball team posted a 3-0 win over Arkansas-Fort Smith in its first action on Saturday at the A&M-Commerce Classic. 

Mines captured the win behind set scores of 25-19, 26-24 and 25-20 and posted sideout percentages of 0.76, 0.66 and 0.66 over the three games. 

The Orediggers had four players reach double-figures for kills, led by Peterson who recorded the second-highest attack percentage on 20 or more attacks in program history with her mark of .739. The St. Louis, Mo., native recorded 17 kills on just 23 attempts while adding three digs and one assisted block on the defensive side. 

Sophomore Alanna Winfield, the record holder for that statistic with an .800 attack percentage on 20 attempts set last season, added 11 kills on a .216 attack percentage in addition to a trio of digs and a pair of blocks. 

Senior Sarah Pekarek added 10 kills and finished just shy of another double-double with nine digs on the defensive side. Sophomore Abby Reuland closed out the four players with 10-plus kills with 10 of her own on a robust .412 attack percentage. 

Reigning RMAC Setter of the Week Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood dished out 54 assists over the straight-set win while also adding eight digs on defense. The junior helped lead Mines to a team attack percentage of .292 during the victory. 

Sophomore Taryn Huber led the squad with 24 digs and a pair of service aces from the back line, while junior Corrine Din notched 13.
