GOLDEN – Led by three players in double figures for kills, the No. 20 Colorado Mesa volleyball team upended No. 12 Colorado School of Mines by a 3-0 final on Friday at Volk Gymnasium in Golden.
Game scores for the match were 25-19, 25-17 and 25-22.
Mines (11-2, 4-1 RMAC) was bested by the Mavericks (10-3, 4-1 RMAC) in attack percentage (0.384-to-0.255) and sideout percentage (0.69-to-0.54) in the win. The defeat snapped Mines' seven-match win streak and five-match conference win streak dating back to last season.
Sophomore Megan Peterson led the offense with 10 kills on a .304 attack percentage to finish as the only Oredigger in double figures for kills. The St. Louis, Mo., product added three assisted blocks and a pair of digs on the defensive end as well.
Junior Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood notched another double-double with 35 assists and 11 digs during the matchup. She chipped in a pair of kills and a service ace offensively while also notching three assisted blocks on the defensive side.
She became the program's all-time assist leader in the squad's 3-1 victory over Western State on Tuesday.
Sophomore Alanna Winfield notched eight kills on .318 hitting, freshman Mattie Behr hit .636 on the way to seven kills and senior Sarah Pekarek notched six kills and six digs as well.
Sophomore Taryn Huber led the back line with eight digs in addition to a pair of assists offensively. Junior Corrine Din recorded six digs with a pair of assists and senior Cassie Vick was credited with three digs.
Mines will continue its weekend home stand on Saturday evening when the squad hosts Fort Lewis College in Lockridge Arena at 7 p.m.
