GOLDEN – Led by 6-of-10 makes outside from sophomore Gokul Natesan, No. 5/8 Colorado School of Mines men's basketball tied its season-high 13 three-pointers Friday to tame No. 8/12 Colorado Colorado Springs at Lockridge Arena, 82-73.
Less than a week removed from a 59-57 overtime defeat of then-No. 10/19 MSU Denver, Mines (14-0, 10-0 RMAC) padded its conference lead to two games with the second straight top-10 home win.
Ranked 22nd in Division II three-point field goal percentage at week's beginning, the men connected on 13-of-24 (.542) triples – their third game of 50.0 percent or better shooting from distance – and finished with a plus-24 advantage in perimeter scoring (39-15).
Natesan closed with a career-high 25 points on 7-of-11 field goals and season-best seven assists to lead all players.
Redshirt senior Brian Muller had 15 points – all in the second half – and classmate Trevor Ritchie 13.
Redshirt sophomore Kaan Korkmaz added eight points and sophomore Caleb Waitsman posted six and a team-leading nine rebounds.
Mines hit 50.0 percent in each stanza, ending 29-of-58 overall. the Orediggers built a 21-point margin with 4:53 to play in the initial 20:00 and never allowed UCCS (14-2, 8-2 RMAC) inside of eight points in the second after entering the half in front 12, 39-27.
Derrick White scored 16 of his 23 points in the second half and amassed 14 rebounds to pace the Mountain Lions. Darius Pardner came off the bench for 18 and Alex Walsh tallied 16.
UCCS shot 46.6 percent (27-of-58) on the evening and owned a 44-30 margin inside, but were only 5-of-21 (.238) along the arc.
The Orediggers wrap up their four-game homestand against 10-win Colorado State-Pueblo at 7 p.m. Saturday in Golden.
