Box Score How It Happened
#8 Colorado School of Mines built a big first-half lead and never looked back, rolling to a 51-24 win at Western New Mexico to go to 6-0 this season.
Justin Dvorak threw for 484 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another while Ty Young had a breakout game, catching 12 balls for 192 yards and three touchdowns.
The Mines defense held WNMU without a first-half touchdown to help CSM build a 28-3 lead at the break. Mines' offense produced 638 yards overall.
The Mustangs (2-4) actually took the early lead on a first-quarter field goal, and Mines was held scoreless in the period before exploding for 28 second-quarter points. Sam Seeton scored the first of his two touchdowns to start things off, and Dvorak found a hole to run 38 yards before Seeton punched in from three yards out on the next drive. Young caught his first touchdown with 29 seconds left in the half, and Mines led 28-3 at the break.
Cole Spurgeon caught a three-yard scoring pass to start the third quarter, but WNMU tried to get back in it with a pair of big plays. Marques Rodgers caught a 62-yard pass from Mitch Glassman, and Xavier Ayers went 75 yards to the house later in the quarter. Mines answered right back with Young's 68-yard score, and he opened the fourth quarter with a four-yard TD catch to all but seal things up.
WNMU scored another 75-yard touchdown on a trick play early in the fourth, but Avery Llewellyn tacked on a 33-yard field goal to end it at 51-24.
Scoring Big
Mines came into the weekend second-best in NCAA Division II in scoring, and they lived up to their reputation with their fourth 50+ game of the season. The Orediggers now average a healthy 49.5 points per game.
Young's Big Day
Ty Young set career highs in receptions, yards, and touchdowns with his 12 catches for 192 yards and three scores. His previous best yardage was 162 yards as a redshirt freshman in 2013 against Colorado Mesa.
Dvorak Produces
Justin Dvorak continued his big numbers, overcoming a slow first quarter to unload 484 yards passing and 4 touchdowns. He also had his game of the season on the ground, rushing six times for 63 yards and a score. The NCAA leader in total touchdowns, Dvorak now has 29 total – 24 passing and five rushing.
Spurgeon Stands Out
It was another big day for Cole Spurgeon, who caught eight balls for 128 yards and a touchdown. He leads all Orediggers with eight TD receptions this season, and it was his third 100+ yard game of the year.

Mines' high-pace offense ran 96 plays, averaging 6.6 yards per play. The Orediggers put up 484 yards in the air and 154 on the ground.
Living In the Backfield
The Mines defense had constant pressure in the Mustang backfield, racking up nine tackles for a loss in total. Drew Stephon led all players with 11 tackles and three for a loss. Emmanuel Graves had their only sack (for a big 20-yard loss) and added 1.5 TFL. Dallas Fields had 1.5 TFL and was credited with three hurries.
