How It Happened

The 21st-ranked Colorado School of Mines (15-4, 9-2) volleyball team hit the cover off the ball as they picked up a huge 3-1 (25-15, 25-19, 23-25, 25-14) victory at Rocky Division leader Regis University (11-9, 8-3) on Saturday, October 17 at the Regis Fieldhouse.

Seemingly every match this season the Orediggers have come out slow in the opening set, but not tonight as they blasted Regis 25-15. Mines broke an early 5-5 tie and stretched it into an 18-10 advantage in the blink of an eye. Junior Alanna Winfield led the way with kills in the period.

Mines got a much more a challenge in the second set before pulling away late for the 25-19 win. Leading 15-14 midway through the frame, CSM finished on a 10-5 run that was sparked by three kills and a service ace from Winfield. Senior Megan Peterson also chipped in a pair of kills during that final run.

The Rangers made a game out of it by taking the third frame by the narrow final of 25-23, but Mines responded with a dominating 25-14 victory in the fourth set to clinch the road victory. Winfield added four kills and four blocks in the frame.
