Box Score How It Happened
19th-ranked Colorado School of Mines (16-4, 10-2) got a gutty 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-23) shutout over Mountain Division rival CSU-Pueblo (7-13, 5-7) on Friday, October 23 in Lockridge Arena.
The Orediggers had to dig out of holes in all three sets to get the hard fought sweep over an upset-minded Thundwolves squad.
In the opening set, Mines found itself behind 23-20 and looked as though it would surrender the frame, but three attack errors by Pueblo and a kill by senior Megan Peterson got CSM back into the lead. Freshman Chandler Glass then sealed the set with a service ace for the 25th point.
While the Orediggers had to dig out a slight hole (12-10) in the second set, they very much found their groove as they took frame, 25-17. Mines closed out the period on a 9-1 run that saw freshman Janice Jin drill four kills and Peterson nail a couple.
The third and final set played out similarly to the opening one as CSM this time clawed out of a 20-17 deficit and turned it into a narrow 25-23 victory. Junior Alanna Winfield led the way in the frame with five kills.
