Strong Offensive Night Propels #18 Mines To A Shutout at Adams State

How It Happened

The 18th-ranked Colorado School of Mines (11-3, 5-1) volleyball team closed out its two-week road swing with its second straight shutout as this time it won by the final of 25-13, 25-20, 25-15 at Adams State (3-11, 2-4) on Saturday, October 3 at Plachy Hall.

The Orediggers had a golden night on offense as they drilled 45 kills and hit an incredible .394 as a team. The team only committed six attacking errors all night.

Mines came out in the first set like a team on fire as they easily took the frame by the final of 25-13. The Orediggers hit .333 for the fame as junior Alanna Winfield and seniors Megan Peterson and Frannie Cormier each supplied three kills.

The second was slightly more competitive, but ultimately CSM got a comfortable 25-20 win to take a 2-0 lead. Winfield really took of the second set as she tallied eight kills in the frame while hitting .429. Senior setter Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood also put up a solid 14 assists during the period.

Ready to end the match and get back to Golden, Mines had a final set similar to the opening one where it bludgeoned the Grizzlies, 25-15. Peterson took her turn taking over the offense in the final set where she put six kills while hitting at a .556 clip.

 

Notables

-          Mines got a monster outing from the duo of Alanna Winfield and Megan Peterson as they drilled 14 and 12 kills, respectively. The both hit will over .400 for the contest and combined for eight blocks.

-          Also having a huge game for the Orediggers was Frannie Cormier who posted a double-double of 10 kills and a game-high 14 digs. She also hit a solid .360 on the night.

-          As a team, Mines put up nine blocks with Peterson and Ellie Monarch leading the way with five and four, respectively.

-          The Orediggers defense held the Grizzlies to a measly .103 hitting percentage on the night as they also committed 21 attacking errors.

 

Up Next

After two weeks of traveling, Colorado School of Mines will finally return to the comfy confines of Lockridge Arena. The Orediggers will host MSU Denver on Friday, October 9 at 7 p.m. and then Colorado Colorado Springs a day later at 5 p.m.
