Box Score

Men's soccer's Richard Garvey and volleyball's Megan Peterson have been named the Colorado School of Mines Student Athlete Advisory Commitee (SAAC) Athletes of the Month for October.

Garvey has been a driving force behind #8 Mines' unbeaten season in men's soccer. The senior has been on a scoring tear in October with eight of his 11 goals this season coming during the month, leading the Orediggers to the RMAC regular-season championship. He had a three-game scoring streak early in October that included his first career hat trick against Westminster, and he has provided four game-winners - against Westminster, Colorado Mesa, and twice against Adams State. Garvey is second in the RMAC in both goals and points.

Peterson has been #18 Mines' most consistent performer at the net this season, and was especially reliable in October. For the month she hit .294 with 110 kills, accounting for 3.26 kills/set and 1.1 blocks/set. Her 4.0 points/set led Mines for the month, as did her 35.0 blocks. Her top hitting match came in a four-set win at Chadron State, where she dropped in 19 kills, and she also had a sterling 12-kill, .455, 5-block three-set match against Adams State early in October. The Orediggers sit atop the RMAC standings heading into the final two weeks of the regular season.

The awards are nominated by and voted on by Mines' SAAC. Also nominated by the commitee was football's Sam Seeton.
