Dominant Team Effort Powers #18 Mines to Shutout of New Mexico Highlands

How It Happened
A completely dominant offensive and defensive performance highlighted a memorable Senior Day for #18 Colorado School of Mines (19-5, 13-2) in a 3-0 (25-10, 25-11, 25-12) shutout of RMAC foe New Mexico Highlands.

As a team, Mines hit .420 for the contest while holding Highlands to an incredible -.022 attacking percentage. The Orediggers held NMHU to a total of 18 kills on the afternoon.

Mines came out on fire in the opening frame as they hit an insane .520 with 15 kills and only one error in a 25-10 white-wash. Middle blockers Megan Peterson and Ellie Monarch drilled four kills apiece while New Mexico Highlands had four total for the set.

Positive play continued for CSM in the second set as they came out firing on all cylinders on its way to an 18-5 lead. The Cowgirls showed some resolve four a quick four-point spurt, but behind six kills and two blocks from junior Alanna Winfield the Orediggers closed out with a 25-11 win.

Already up two sets-to-none, the rout was on as Colorado School of Mines jumped out to a 9-0 lead to easily close out the match, 25-12. The opening run was powered four kills from freshman Janice Jin.

Notables
-    Alanna Winfield and Megan Peterson each had a whale of game this afternoon to pace the Orediggers. Winfield threw down a game-high 12 kills at .632 clip while Peterson grabbed 11 kills at a .500 attacking percentage.
-    Ellie Monarch was in on a game-high five blocks as Mines produced seven on the night.
-    The dynamic defensive duo of junior Taryn Huber and senior Corrine Din combined for 28 of CSM's 47 digs this afternoon.
-    Senior Frannie Cormier produced a season-high four service aces.
-    After the contest, the Colorado School of Mines volleyball team honored seniors Danielle Johnson-Hazlewood, Frannie Cormier, Megan Peterson and Corrine Din for their contributions to the program.

Up Next
Mines is back in action next weekend as they the road to conference newcomer Westminster on Friday, November 7 for a 7 p.m. contest. They then wrap up the road trip with a 7 p.m. contest at Colorado Mesa on Saturday.
