How It Happened

The goals came early and often as the 18th-ranked Colorado School of Mines (8-0-1, 6-0) got a dominating 4-1 win at S.D. School of Mines & Technology (1-8-1, 1-5) on Sunday, October 4 to stay perfect in the RMAC.

Mines wasted little time letting its presence known in Rapid City as senior Joe Haines found the back of net for the third time season when he took a feed from sophomore Nikolaus Grotz only 51 seconds into the game.

Then, a little more than 10 minutes later, senior Ryan Leach nodded home his third goal of the season off a sophomore Jackson Shelledy assist. Shelledy wasn't done assisting though as he next found senior Richard Garvey at the 36:34-mark to take a commanding 3-0 advantage into the halftime break.

Freshman John Haist also wanted to get in on the fun as he added his team-leading eighth goal of the season off an assist from senior Chayce Moniz 12 minutes and seven seconds into the second half.

It appeared as though the Orediggers would earn a shutout, but SDMT's Noah McKenzie ruined that with his team's only goal and shot of the game in the 80th-minute.
