Box Score How It Happened
Richard Garvey scored a hat trick to key a 6-0 rout of Westminster and help #13 Mines clinch an RMAC Tournament berth.
The Orediggers (9-0-1, 7-0 RMAC) received goals from Garvey, John Haist, Chayce Moniz, and Aaron Safadi to stay perfect for the season and become the first team to secure a spot in the RMAC postseason bracket.
Mines put five across in the first half, with Garvey's first two coming less than three minutes apart. The senior finished a terrific play by Nikolaus Grotz in the 17th minute as Grotz saved a ball from going out at the end line, and Garvey slotted the redirection home. Moments later, Bryce Townsend sent a perfect cross into the box for Joe Haines to head to Garvey's feet, and the finish was easy from there.
Moniz converted another Townsend cross at 26', and Garvey completed his first career hat trick when Jared Herselman's far-post corner fell to his feet in the 35th minute. Haist tacked on his RMAC-leading ninth goal of the season 44 seconds before halftime with a cannon from the top of the box.
The second half saw many of Mines' younger players get some time, and Safadi made the most of it with his first career goal in the 77th minute. Adam Fox took a corner kick and Safadi headed it off the bottom of the crossbar and over the line to make it 6-0.
