How It Happened

Seventeen matches played, no defeats for #8 Colorado School of Mines (14-0-3) men's soccer as they wrap up their first ever undefeated regular season with a 2-1 OT win at CSU-Pueblo on Sunday, November 1.

It took an overtime penalty kick from sophomore Nikolaus Grotz in the 94', but the Orediggers finish the 2015 regular season without a loss as they head into the RMAC Tournament this coming Friday, November 6 at Stermole Soccer Stadium.

The undefeated season celebration looked like it was going to get started early as Mines took the initial lead when Grotz flicked a pass from the far side that senior Jared Herselman was able to send home in the 23'.

Mines would take that into the half and looked to be in control of the match, but the Thunderwolves equalized the game in the 68' minute when Mackenie Paquette sent home a Connor Marth corner kick.

After the Pueblo goal, both team traded shots with Mines putting two on goal, but neither was able to put one in to send the game into overtime.

After a great look from Herselman two minutes into overtime, Grotz earned a PK that he buried to give CSM its first ever undefeated regular season.
