How It Happened

The 19th-ranked Colorado School of Mines (22-5, 15-2) finished 13-1 on its home court this regular season as they rallied for a 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-11, 25-23) non-conference over Regis University on Thursday, November 12 in Lockridge Arena.

The first set for a tough hitting performance for both teams as they each struggled with errors. Regis did just enough though to get the 25-21 win. Mines hit .000 as a team as they had a tough time getting into rhythm until late in the set.

Mines used the poor opening frame to fuel their hunger in the second and third sets as they blasted Regis off the floor with scores of 25-17 and 25-11, respectively. During those two dominating sets, CSM got eight kills and two blocks from junior Alanna Winfield and seven kills from Frannie Cormier.

Now needing only one more game to close out the victory, Mines and Regis dueled to an instant classic in the fourth set that saw 14 ties and five lead changes with neither team leading by more than two points.

Tied up at 23 each, Mines finally took its final lead on a RU attack error by Rachael McCue. Then Frannie Cormier closed out the game with authority on a vicious kill off the face of a Rangers player.
