Box Score #15 Colorado School of Mines couldn't overcome a slow first half as Fort Lewis won, 64-53, in Durango on Friday.
The Orediggers (6-2, 1-1 RMAC) shot only 25 percent in the first half as the Skyhawks (6-1, 1-1 RMAC) built a 31-20 halftime lead that extended to as much as 18 in the second half. Fort Lewis scored 13 straight points after Gokul Natesan hit the game's first five.
Kaan Korkmaz provided spark off the bench with 12 points, eight coming consecutively in a run that helped Mines cut the FLC lead to 10 late in the game. The Skyhawks, however, made timely free throws in the closing minutes and never let Mines cut the deficit to single digits, despite three-pointers by Luke Schroepfer and Ruben Jackson and a three-point play from Garrett Loew in the final minute.
