How It Happened

Behind the efforts of three different Orediggers who reached double figures in scoring, Colorado School of Mines moves to 3-0 in RMAC play for the first time since the 2009-10 season with a dominating 78-62 victory at Adams State on Saturday, December 12 in ASU's Plachy Hall Gym.

Senior Courtney Martin poured in 12 points while freshmen Cassidy Budge and Mikaela Moore chipped in 11 each in the blowout victory.

Mines picked up where they left off in the second half of the Fort Lewis game as they shot a blistering 48.3% from the field in the first half in Alamosa.

CSM came out after the opening tip with four quick points on buckets from both redshirt-freshman Caitlyn Smith and Cassidy Budge. While Adams State evened the game back up at nine apiece, Mines closed out the first quarter on a 10-4 run to put some cushion between the squads. Redshirt-freshman Mikaela Moore supplied six of the 10 points during what would be the game's pivotal run.

ASU's Lena Jaycox got the lead back down to three (19-16) with a three-point basket a little over 30 seconds into the second quarter,  but from there the Orediggers methodically built up its lead over the period. Leading 27-21 with 3:37 left in the half, Mines would hold the Grizzlies to only three more points the rest of the half as they opened up an 11-point halftime lead, 35-24.

The halftime break didn't cool off the Orediggers at all as they continued to push its lead out even larger margins as Mines reached a 16-point advantage (45-29) by the time they reached the media timeout halfway through the third quarter. Adams got the lead back down to 12 at the 2:58 mark, but junior Katie Kuhn made sure their momentum was snuffed out with a dagger three-ball only 30 seconds later.

Leading 52-35 at the start of the fourth quarter, it became fairly academic for Orediggers as they would eventually lead by as much as 23 (62-39) before cruising to the easy 78-62 victory.  Adams State did hit four three-points and scored 27 points in the final period, but Mines essentially matched them with 26 points themselves.
