SPEARFISH, S.D. – Driven by 64.5 percent second-half shooting and five players in double figures, No. 17/15 Colorado School of Mines men's basketball charged past Black Hills State, 70-54, on Friday at the Donald E. Young Center in Spearfish, S.D.
The Orediggers (19-3, 15-3 RMAC) hit 20-of-31 (.645) field goals in the second 20:00 to blow open a 24-21 halftime advantage. Mines put the game out of reach with a 15-3 run inside the final 10 minutes, growing a 12-point lead at 8:11 to 67-43 with 1:59 to play.
Redshirt senior Trevor Ritchie made 6-of-10 from the floor to pace the men with a game-high 14 points – 11 coming after intermission.
Sophomore Gokul Natesan contributed 13, junior Joe Dellenbach had 11 and redshirt senior Brian Muller and sophomore Caleb Waitsman each scored 10.
No. 3 in Division II field goal percentage, Mines converted better than 50.0 percent of its shots for the 14th time, ending the night 30-of-56 (.536).
BHSU (8-17, 6-12 RMAC) shot 37.5 percent (21-of-56) overall and 31.2 percent (9-of-28) outside, and was led by Riley Ryan off the bench with 11.
The Orediggers take on Chadron State in the regular season road finale at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Chadron, Neb.
