TOWSON, Md. – Colorado School of Mines men's basketball sophomore Gokul Natesan was one of five student-athletes named to the NCAA Division II Capital One Academic All-District Men's Basketball First Team on Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A native of Santa Clara, Calif. and first-time honoree, Natesan ranks third in the RMAC in three-point field goal percentage (.454), fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.19) and steals (32), sixth in three-point field goals (49), 13th in scoring (14.4 ppg) and 14th in assists (59).
He has scored in double figures on 16 occasions with 10 games of 15 or more, including a career-best 25 on 7-of-11 shooting and 6-of-10 threes against No. 8/12 Colorado Colorado Springs.
The 2013-14 RMAC Freshman of the Year has at least one three-point make in his last 21 games and 38 of 49 collegiate contests.
Named 2014-15 RMAC First Team All-Academic in January, Natesan carries a 3.825 GPA in Computer Science.
First-team Academic All-District recipients advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
