DENVER – Following 12 ties and eight lead changes, Colorado School of Mines women's basketball came out on top in a seesaw battle against MSU Denver, 69-64, Friday at the Auraria Event Center in downtown Denver.

The win snapped a five-game losing streak in the series and an 11-game skid on the road dating back to a 65-64 victory on Feb. 25, 2005.

Neither team held a lead of more than five points throughout as Mines (11-11, 6-10 RMAC) shot 41.0 percent (25-of-61) and the Roadrunners 39.1 (27-of-69).

Tied at 61-61 on a Deni Jacobs layup with 2:29 to play, the Orediggers moved ahead four on consecutive field goals from sophomore Laura Tyree and junior Courtney Martin and withstood a MSUD (11-9, 8-8 RMAC) three-pointer with the game's final four points, all at the free throw line.

Tyree finished with 14 points and Martin 16 as Mines placed four starters in double figures.

Senior Taylor Helbig had 18 and eight rebounds and classmate Sam Rusk added 10 and nine, respectively.

The Orediggers were plus-9 in perimeter scoring, burying 7-of-15 (.467) to only 4-of-19 (.211) by the Roadrunners.

MSUD's Brittany Curl posted a game-high 21 points, while Jacobs ended with a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double. Georgia Ohrdorf had 10.

Mines resumes its Denver-area swing at 3 p.m. Saturday versus Regis at the Regis Fieldhouse.
