GOLDEN – Colorado School of Mines baseball earned a split of its four-game series against Colorado Christian, rebounding from a narrow 13-12 loss with a 3-2 eighth inning walk-off in the finale Monday at Jim Darden Field in Golden.

Due to technical difficulties, box scores were not immediately available following the games.

Junior Nate Olinger (2-0) shined on the hill in game two, hurling his first complete game behind three strikeouts and only two earned runs allowed on eight hits and three walks.

The RMAC Preseason Player of the Year put himself in position for the win with a game-tying two-run home run in the sixth inning.

The Orediggers needed only three batters in the eighth to complete the come-from-behind win as sophomore Logan Smith singled and was doubled home on a left field rip by senior Evan Brown.

Smith and Brown each hit 2-for-4 and scored once, while Olinger ended 1-for-3 with the two RBI and one run.

Mines rallied from deficits of 1-0 and 9-5 in the opener to enter the eighth inning even at 9-9, but a third comeback bid – senior Zach Bothwell lifted a sacrifice fly to left and classmate Shane Johnson doubled home two – fell one run short.

CCU (7-9, 2-6 RMAC) claimed the lead in the top of the frame with its second four-run at-bat on four hits and a hit by pitch.

The Orediggers cranked out 13 or more hits for the third time with 15, led by Brown and sophomore Connor Lambert at 3-for-5 and one RBI, one double and two runs apiece.

Senior Nathan Fishel batted 2-for-4 with four RBI via a sixth-inning grand slam; Johnson was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, and sophomore Cody Marvel concluded 2-for-5 with an RBI double and one run.
