ALAMOSA – Freshman Hallie Smith hurled a three-hit shutout and Colorado School of Mines softball halved its Sunday doubleheader against Black Hills State and Adams State, 4-0 and 8-0 (6), at ASU Softball Field in Alamosa.

Smith (2-9) needed just 77 pitches to go the full 7.0 innings versus the Yellow Jackets (4-13, 3-7 RMAC), allowing only three hits and a walk with four strikeouts in the afternoon opener.

Mines (2-21, 1-10 RMAC) backed Smith with two runs in the first and seventh innings, including a solo home run to left center from sophomore Rebecca Fallon and RBI infield single by junior Dana Gallegos to cap the scoring.

Gallegos compiled her team-best 11 multi-hit game and ninth of three hits or more at 3-for-4 with the one RBI. Fallon hit 2-for-3 with one run and was matched by classmate Jackie Vasquez.

Beneficiaries of a dominant pitching effort in game one, the Orediggers fell victim of one in the finale as a trio of Grizzlies limited Mines to only four hits and two walks.

ASU (9-11, 7-7 RMAC) pushed across eight runs behind nine hits and four errors, taking the shortened shutout with four scores in the sixth.

Junior Kristen Prudhomme (0-7) was tagged with the loss despite giving up only two earned runs and nine hits in 5.2 innings.

The women step outside of the conference schedule on Wednesday, hosting Fort Hays State at 12 p.m. in their home-opening doubleheader at CSM Softball Field.
