GOLDEN – Junior Kristen Prudhomme and freshman Hallie Smith combined to allow one run on eight hits as Colorado School of Mines softball followed a 4-1 loss with a 2-1, 11-inning walk-off in its home-opener against Fort Hays State on Wednesday at CSM Softball Field.

Prudhomme (0-7) left with a no decision in the game two marathon after giving up only one earned run and six hits over 5.0 frames. Her counterpart Kelsey Kimminau went 8.1 with one earned run and four hits allowed and six strikeouts as the pitching duel resulted in the ninth game of 11 or more innings in Division II.

Smith threw 6.0 innings of nearly perfect relief, yielding just two hits while fanning four. She was provided her third win of the season and first out the bullpen on a sacrifice fly to straightaway center by classmate Pua Fujinaga.

Senior Cassie Ford and sophomore Rebecca Fallon tallied four of the team's five hits and both extra-base knocks; Ford closed 2-for-5 with one double and Fallon 2-for-4 with a triple. Sophomore Paige Noehring went 1-for-5, tying the game at 1-1 in the fifth on a ball to the second baseman.

Paxton Duran carried FHSU (11-12) to the opening game decision as the junior ace took a no-hit bid into the seventh, eventually ending with one hit and the one earned run surrendered to go with six punchouts.

Freshman Sonoma Toot broke up the no-hitter with a seventh-inning leadoff single through the left side and came around to score on a sac fly to right from sophomore Jackie Vasquez.

Mines (3-22) continues its 10-game home swing on March 21-22 with a four-game series versus NFCA No. 25 MSU Denver.
