WALNUT, Calif. – Colorado School of Mines track and field shined in its return to California on Thursday, achieving five NCAA provisional results and one school record across three meets in the Los Angeles metro area.
Junior Ann Miller sported the performance of the evening in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the famed Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, winning her 15-runner section in a program-best and No. 3-ranked provisional 10:28.20.
Sophomore Dan Mahoney circled Hilmer Lodge Stadium to ninth among 27 in the 10,000 section A final with a provisional 30:14.25, while junior Roy Bowling ran 34th in section B in 31:45.96.
Senior Austin Roup and junior Jacob Hollister paced the Division II contingent in the men's hammer throw at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa; Roup took runner-up of 33, trailing only Division I No. 6 Renaldo Frechou of South Alabama at 200-09 (61.20m), and Hollister closed ninth at 180-08 (55.07m).
The throws marked the fifth consecutive provisional distances by the duo.
Sophomore Jeffrey Stephens added his fourth straight qualifying distance in the javelin, ranking third among 11 at the Cal State L.A. Twilight Open at 193-08 (59.02m).
Mines continues the West Coast trip Friday with multiple events between the Mt. SAC Relays and Bryan Clay Invite.
